Modern taste of britain FOOD TOUR

Inspired by the world of flavours found in Britain, many local Brits are creating their own spectacular eateries, where they can show off their local ingredients, local dishes, and British culinary skills. The movement to keep ingredients sustainable and local is taking over Britain and this tour aims to explore the “Modern Tastes of Britain” from the farmers in the market to the shops to the actual locales that are coming up with these fabulous new gastronomic concepts.

BRITISH FOOD – TAKING FLAVOURS TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Britain hasn’t always had the best reputation for gourmet cooking. Aside from Tea, Beer and Fish & Chips, many visitors to London don’t even know what to consider “British Food”! For many years, Brits themselves haven’t really fussed too much about taking a strong interest in “Traditional” or “Local” food trends like other countries around the world. As a result, no other country welcomes international food with the enthusiasm of Great Britain. Everywhere you look, you can see rich varieties of world flavours – Britain truly has it all. However, FOOD has become one of the biggest trends in the UK – changing the entire culinary scene.

As much as Brits enjoy eating the flavours of the world, a new wave of fabulous restaurants are opening with incredible concepts – and they are 100% BRITISH! The international influence in food has led to an incredible new-found British interest in creating their own culinary fusions, causing many foodies to take traditional international recipes to the next level with local flare.  On this tour, you will discover this local flare on a number of levels – exploring the market stalls, wandering the London Bridge side streets – stopping in a unique historic pub on the Bridge and finishing in one of Borough Market’s most incredible gourmet British restaurants for some gourmet dessert and tea.

KEEPING IT LOCAL AND SUSTAINABLE

The Modern Taste of Britain Tour is going to show you how keeping it Local and Sustainable is more important now than ever before in the UK. At the heart of Eating in Britain, is the concept of keeping things “local and sustainable”. Probably due to the many years of bad press about Britain’s food, there is a HUGE interest in the concept of buying and selling foods that are not only local, but also sustainable. Many shops are so skilled in the products that they sell, that they can even tell you which farm it came from, how it was grown and many other details that consumers now want to know. No longer do people want to be kept in the dark on what they consume – they want total transparency. Even on a mass level, this trend is driving big supermarkets to re-examine what they are selling so that now you can even find the details of where your produce is coming from labelled on the bag – and more and more of those products are coming from the UK.

FROM FARM TO TABLE – OUR BRITISH GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE AROUND LONDON

The Farm To Table concept is something that is taking over the world from North America to Europe. Our tour is meant to show this process, starting with the products. We will explore the market and try a number of different sustainable products from local producers and sellers. We will start the morning at a famous chocolate shop for something sweet, before we dive into Borough Market, seeing the latest trends and of course sampling a number of delicious nibbles – from cheeses to charcuterie.

After exploring the products, we will wander into the “street food” section of the market, where you will get to sample one of the most incredible British inventions – with a gourmet twist, before we wander out of the market to explore the side streets of the London Bridge area. We will do a tasting of wine in a famous old converted warehouse before we go back in time to see what the area would have looked like hundreds of years ago when it was a flourishing port for ships and products. To really get the full experience of how products go from Farm to Table, we will make our way over to London Bridge and stop in a fantastic pub with an interesting past and you will try our favourite modern version of the British classic, the homemade pie.

Once you’ve polished off your last bite of buttery pie crust, there’s no better way to finish your Modern British food  tasting, than with a gourmet British dessert and tea. Wandering back through the market, we will make our way towards a British restaurant that is so proud of their farm to table roots that they can proudly brag that every single thing in their restaurant is 100% locally sourced from the market – and almost exclusively British. They even have an “honour roll” on the back page of their menu to pay tribute to each and every person who provides them with their top quality, sustainable products. With a view that overlooks the bustling vendors and lunch-seekers, we will sit down to 5 – star service as you enjoy the gourmet grande finale to your British Culinary experience.

Modern taste of Britain tour recommended

Truly enjoyed our tour with Sarah. We were fortunate to have her all to ourselves, so it was much like being shown around by a new friend. The tour centered around the lively Borough Market and some adjacent establishments. I won’t bother elaborating on the points of the tour, but the emphasis was on the trend in British cuisine towards understanding where the ingredients come from and the value of high level of quality. Thanks Sarah!

A fabulous outing with a great guide Sarah. Started with breakfast at the Roast and the food kept coming. Great value and a fun day out. Finished up with chocolates as well. Well worth doing but make sure you don’t eat beforehand.

Such a fun day out exploring the ‘foodie’ side of London. Sarah was very friendly and an amazingly knowledgeable guide. I loved how we went to two different areas of London and places that I had never been before, Highly recommended.
